Something quit after dark, and somebody who fixes it picks up

The air conditioning dies at midnight in July, or a storm rolls through and the system stays dark after the lights come back on. Call the 24/7 line and a person who does this work answers. Together we sort out whether the truck rolls right now or first thing in the morning, and the hour never adds a fee to anything.

Zach and Eric Massey run EZ Heating and Cooling as a family crew, with 25 years in the trade behind them. Clover is a short drive west of our Fort Mill shop, and the whole town gets the same no-surcharge line as every other address we serve.

The phone call comes before the truck

Sorting it out on the phone

The first few minutes on the phone decide a lot. We ask what the system is doing, whether a breaker tripped, whether there is water or a burning smell, who is home, and how hot or cold the house has gotten. Some of those answers mean the truck moves now. Others mean a safe night with a fan or a space heater and a visit first thing.

A coil corroded this far gets replaced, not recharged.

We would rather tell you Tuesday serves you fine than sell you an urgent visit you have no use for. That is also why a lot of our Clover calls start with a neighbor’s name.

Property managers and owners with several rentals use this line too. Tell us the address, who can let us in, and whether a tenant is home, and whoever approves the work gets the written number before we start, the same one the owner would get standing in the kitchen.

What you can safely do first

Check the thermostat mode and its batteries. Look at the breaker for the indoor unit and the one for the outdoor unit, and reset a tripped one once. If it trips again, leave it off. Pull the filter, and look for water around the indoor unit, since a full drain pan can shut a system down on purpose.

Past that, leave the equipment alone. If you smell gas, get everyone out and call the gas company from outside. If something electrical smells like it is burning, kill power at the breaker. Then call us and tell us exactly what you saw and heard.

What rides on the truck heading west

Loaded for Clover’s houses

An emergency only gets fixed on the first trip if the part is already on the truck. Clover’s housing spans three generations, so we load for all of them: parts for veteran systems on the in-town streets, builder-grade components for the newer houses along the lake road, drain tooling through the summer, and flame sensors all fall.

The phone call tells us which of those matter tonight. What we have seen across the rest of the county tells us what usually sits right behind the first failure, so that comes along too.

Long drives, real arrival windows

West and south of town the properties open into acreage, and some of the drives run long. We give you a realistic arrival window for the two-lane roads and call if it moves. Nobody pays mileage. A farmhouse at the end of a long lane costs the same as a house on a street in town.

Same-day service reaches every Clover address from our shop. At night, how quickly we arrive depends on where the crew is when you call, and we say so plainly instead of promising a time we cannot keep.

Those long lanes often end at workshops and converted barns with equipment of their own. If an outbuilding lost its heat or cooling the same night as the house, mention it on the call so both get looked at in one trip.

Nights cost what Tuesdays cost

Plenty of outfits treat an after-hours call as a chance to charge double. We never have. Breakdowns choose their own hour, and we see no reason to bill a family for the timing when a cold or sweltering house at 2 a.m. is already a bad enough night. The emergency line carries no extra fee in any season.

The visit itself runs the way a daytime call does. Instruments go on the system first, you hear what failed in plain terms, and the honest number is written down before work begins. If the right move at midnight is a safe temporary fix and a proper repair in daylight, we explain why and price both.

Is it today or Tuesday?

Call and tell us what the system is doing. You get a straight answer on how urgent it is before anybody drives anywhere.

Storm nights and dead control boards

When the power returns and the system does not

Summer thunderstorms knock out control boards around Clover every year. A surge hits, the power blinks, and the house comes back with lights and a humming refrigerator while the air conditioner sits silent. Sometimes a breaker tripped. Other times a board or a contactor took the hit.

We walk through the simple checks with you on the phone first. If the breakers are fine and the system still will not respond, the fault is inside the equipment, and it needs a meter on it.

A system that had its spring checkup is less likely to be carrying a weak part for a surge to finish off, which is one more reason we keep pushing the maintenance calendar.

Protecting the next one

After a storm repair we bring up surge protection, and we are not shy about it. A surge protector costs a lot less than a control board, so we mention it on most storm calls.

A storm outage also finds the systems that were already weak. A capacitor limping through July may not survive a hard restart, so a call that looks like storm damage is sometimes a tired part that picked its moment. The readings sort that out, and you pay only for what actually broke.

When the attic unit stops the whole house

Air handlers above the ceiling

Plenty of houses put the air handler in the attic, set across the trusses with flex duct running off in every direction. When it stops, the whole house stops with it, and when its drain pan overflows, the water lands on the ceiling below. That turns an attic unit into a real emergency faster than equipment sitting in a garage.

We climb up with lights and a ladder, check the blower, the board, the drain pan, and the float switch, and look for signs of a problem that has been building for a while.

A summer attic is hard on people and parts alike. We work steadily up there and never rush a board swap because the heat is miserable, since a hurried attic repair is exactly the one that brings us back a week later.

Coils that finally give out

An evaporator coil rarely fails overnight. Corrosion eats at it for years, fins clog, and small leaks slowly drain the system. The emergency is only the day it crosses the line and the house stops cooling. When we pull a coil in that shape, we show it to you and explain whether a new coil or a new system makes more sense.

Leaks get found and fixed before anything gets recharged. If replacement is the right call, Optimus financing is there when the timing is the worst. The main emergency HVAC page covers our whole map, and Clover AC repair handles the calls that can wait for daylight.

Emergency questions from around Clover

Do you really charge nothing extra for a call at 2 a.m.?

Really. The 24/7 line carries no emergency surcharge, and the price on a holiday weekend matches a weekday afternoon. You get the repair price in writing before the work starts, whatever time the truck pulls into your driveway.

What counts as an emergency?

A house with no heat in freezing weather or no cooling in a heat wave, especially with babies, older relatives, or anyone with a health condition inside. Water pouring from an indoor unit counts. So does a burning smell. If you are not sure, call and we will talk it through.

I smell gas near the furnace. Should I call you first?

No. Get everyone out of the house and call the gas company or 911 from outside, and do not flip light switches on the way out. Once the gas is shut off and the house is safe, call us and we will track down what caused it.

The power came back after a storm but the AC did not. What should I try?

Check the breakers for both the indoor and outdoor units and reset a tripped one once. Give the system several minutes, since many units wait before restarting. If it still will not run, or the breaker trips again, leave it off and call. A surge may have taken a board or a contactor.

How long will it take you to reach us out past town?

That depends on where the crew is when you call, and we tell you plainly. You get a realistic arrival window, and we call if it changes. Long drives out to acreage never add mileage to the bill.

Water is dripping from the ceiling under our attic unit. What do I do?

Turn the system off at the thermostat, put a bucket and towels under the drip, and call us. The drain line has likely clogged and the pan overflowed, or the float switch failed to shut things down. Keeping the system off stops more water from soaking into the drywall.

Will you patch it tonight and then sell me a new system tomorrow?

No upsell, no games. If a temporary fix gets you safely through the night, we explain it and price it. If the equipment is worth repairing properly, we say so. If it is not, you see the readings behind that verdict and decide on your own time.

Emergencies are the hours nobody plans for. The Clover service area page covers everything else we do in town.

Winter breakdowns that can wait for daylight belong on the Clover furnace repair page. The heat pump service page explains systems that heat and cool from one outdoor unit, and rooms that never kept up are a job for ductless mini splits.
